Am I the only person who was obsessed with the sitcom, ‘Girlfriends’? You all know what I’m talking about. The show that gave us the Tracee Ellis Ross that we all know and love. I’m more than sure that I wasn’t the only viewer who saw a little bit of each character in myself either. Joan’s caring, nurturing maternal instinct and her need to love and be loved in returned. Maya’s sass, loyalty, and hustler’s spirit. Toni’s confidence, swagger, and no-non-sense attitude. Lynn’s open mind, free spirit, creativity and wit. We say that we love ourselves. I know I do. We take care of our coils, ensure that our nails are manicured, lather our bodies in coconut oil, go to the gym at least four times a week, shop at our local farmer's market, eat our fruits and vegetables, keep our bodies hydrated, mind our business, and this means that we love ourselves...doesn't it? But what if self-love is less about we do and more about we are? What if radically accepted that perhaps we aren't who or what we want to be just yet, but that we are enough just as we are right now? Recently, I had the pleasure of discussing the topical of self-love with Shelah Marie. Read more about Shelah's self-love movement and how meditation and yoga have changed her life, and may possibly change yours.

When you make the decision to venture out and learn about a place or a culture that is new and unfamiliar, you are opening your mind, heart, and spirit up to a learning experience that can inspire and ignite growth, renewal, restoration, a heightened sense of being, and a new connection to the world around you. Ok, perhaps I'm being a little bit too deep here, but I can tell you this: traveling and seeing the world is FUN!
Being a mother is one of the greatest blessings and one of the biggest responsibilities. Motherhood does not come with a manual, nor is it a salaried vocation. Dominique Evans (@hairartbydominique) understands this. Learn more about her event that I attended, Conversations and Cocktails with Dominique Evans.
